Tiffina Tinkerton sat at her workbench, examing the operations manual for yet another gadget she had been working on lately.
The S.N.O.R.E. device she had built for her friend Halonan had been a rousing success story despite the lack of beta testing. While lesser engineers would call that blind luck, Tiffina knew better.
There was also the other nagging curiosity facing the gnome lately. While working around the clock on the S.N.O.R.E. device, she had begun to experience not only larger amounts of fatigue, but also a loss of appetite and some nausea.
She also observed a curious variance in her total body mass, with a slight increase mainly centered around her torso and abdomen. A slight bulge had appeared on her waistline despite no apparent increase in caloric intake or decrease in physical activity.
She input multiple factors into her computation machine and began to seek out probable causes for these recent developments.
After a few minutes the device began spitting out printouts of tremendous detail indicating what the likely scenarios were.
After reading the 12 pages on internal bleeding and the 16 1/2 pages of carefully scripted notes about accidental exposure to a growth ray, she began to read about genesis protocol.
Her pen stopped writing a few words into her notes and she went over to retrieve another pen and began to scribble notes in her research book.
“Subject will experience a progressive increase in the occurrence of nausea, usually centered around the earliest part of a daily cycle. A concurrent decrease in the voracity of food consumption will also occur as a side effect of this. The patient can expect to see an increase in mass in various parts of the body, including the primary targeted areas of the mammary appendages and abdominal cavity.”
Tiffina paused to allow her hand to flex and work out the writer’s cramp, then continued transcribing. “Every gnome genesis protocol presents unique challenges while the genetic offspring cohabitates with the maternal parental unit. Consult with a trained physician for more information.”
Determined to see if this was the cause, Tiffina took out a P.I.S.S. device (Pregnancy Indication Specification Stick) she had on hand and began to follow the operations manual for it. After a few minutes of waiting, the green indication light illuminated on the device.
Tiffina calmly noted the results in her journal and began to process the information she had just received. She then began to write down a detailed list of modifications and processes she would have to do in preparation for the next few months.
